February 2025 Kampot Epic Arts Update

What's been happening at Epic Arts.

February has been an exciting month for Epic Arts! Our dance team traveled to Hanoi, delivering impactful workshops and performances that use creative arts to raise disability awareness and promote social change.

Epic Arts Café has been bustling with customers from around the world, enjoying delicious food and drinks while supporting a great cause.

And our Inclusive Education Committee made significant strides by upgrading and expanding our structure and developing a strategic plan marking an important step toward strengthening inclusive education within our networks.

Thanks again to all of our Epic Arts supporters, we really appreciate everything you do to help us spread the word that every person counts (EPiC)!

Inspiring Stories

In December 2024, our Inclusive Arts Course (IAC) students graduated from Epic Arts’ vocational training programs, and we’re thrilled to share their progress.

Several students are gaining valuable hands-on experience through three-month internships in hospitality and salon services, while others are continuing their education at a polytechnic institute.

Our IAC program has equipped students with essential skills, boosted their confidence and helped prepare them for their future careers. We look forward to continuing to follow their journeys and celebrate their achievements.

Events and Performances

Over three days our Social Work team had the privilege of distributing 12 bicycles and 62 school packs to children with disabilities and their families.

This initiative plays a crucial role in promoting inclusive education, ensuring every child with a disability has the tools and resources they need to succeed in school. The bicycles are especially important as they provide children with a reliable means of transportation, helping them overcome challenges related to distance, mobility and accessibility, making it easier for them to attend school regularly and participate in their education.

Inclusive Arts

Epic Arts recently partnered with Phare Ponleu Selpak - Battambang on an exciting collaborative project. The highlight of this partnership was the premiere of our new performance, Into the Jungle, on 21st February. This innovative performance blended circus and contemporary dance, with Epic Arts dancers learning new skills such as diablo, silks, fire fan, fire staff, hula hoop and acrobatics.

The project focused on skill sharing between the Epic Arts and Phare teams, fostering an inclusive exchange of dance and circus techniques. We are thrilled about the future of this partnership and look forward to continuing this journey with Phare.

Taro, a Phare Artist, shared, "This whole experience has completely changed my mindset. Before, I thought people with disabilities might not be able to do certain things... They may have disabilities, but they perform just as well as anyone else. They can dance and possess unique skills that deserve recognition."

Impact Update

Since 2019, Epic Arts has been successfully running the ChildSafe Initiative in Kampot, working to create a safer environment for children. This program focuses on protecting children from exploitation, abuse, and neglect, especially in tourism and community settings.

By partnering with local businesses and communities Epic Arts raises awareness about child protection, trains staff to identify and respond to signs of abuse and promotes practices that ensure children’s safety. Through these efforts, Epic Arts is helping to safeguard the rights and well-being of children in Kampot.
