October 2024

WELCOME BACK

What's been happening at Epic Arts.

It has been another exciting month for us all at Epic Arts.

We have been busy working on a campaign around disability and language which includes an incredible new dance piece by Epic Arts Dance.

October 5th was World Teachers Day. A day to celebrate our Epic teachers and teaching assistants, past and present, for their professionalism, commitment and passion to inclusive education.

And Cambodia celebrated Pchum Ben, a time during which Cambodians spend time with family and honour their ancestors up to seven generations back.

Thanks again to all of our Epic Arts supporters, we really appreciate everything you do to help us spread the word that every person counts (EPiC)!

Inspiring Stories

After completing high school Srey Nak heard about Epic Arts from Exceed organization, where they made her a prosthetic support for her leg . She applied for a job and one month later started as a café server for Epic Arts Café.

Srey Nak has been part of the Café team for five years. After four years she was delighted to receive a promotion to admin assistant where she is constantly leaning lots of new skills.

Having experienced discrimination in the past Srey Nak says she feels safe at Epic Arts and feels she is constantly increasing her knowledge, skills and abilities. She has learned sign language and thinks it’s a very important skill that everyone should have.

Her advice to young people with disabilities is to follow your passion, continue to study and learn new things.

Events and Performances

December 3rd is international day of people with disabilities.

The day is about promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

We are planning our own celebration of the day in Kampot and will update soon on our plans 🥰

Inclusive Arts

‘Call My Name’ is an Epic Arts Dance (EAD) performance which raises awareness on appropriate language choices for disability inclusion through the universal language of dance.

The project promotes inclusive and friendly language toward people with disabilities and advocates for a better understanding between the disability community and the public to create a respectful environment between each other.

The EAD team are currently performing 'Çall My Name' to various organisations throughout Cambodia as part of Language Matters project, funded by our donor Felm.
